According to Wikipedia...
A telephone is a telecommunications device that permits two or more users to conduct a conversation when they are too far apart to be heard directly. A telephone converts sound, typically and most efficiently the human voice, into electronic signals that are transmitted via cables and other communication channels to another telephone which reproduces the sound to the receiving user. The term is derived from Greek: τῆλε (tēle, far) and φωνή (phōnē, voice), together meaning distant voice. A common short form of the term is phone, which came into use almost immediately after the first patent was issued.[1] (References found on Wikipedia.com)
Today as I was working away at my computer when my cell phone rang - not 'pinged' but rang.
My friends name popped up on the screen along with a cute & funny little picture I have saved as her contact info.
For the next two hours we talked. TALKED. Not text, not messaged but utilized the gift of conversation with our voices.
Two hours flew by! Two hours that neither of us usually have mid-week to just enjoy each other and chat.
But today life seemed to carve out the time that we needed.
It lightened my day. It made my heart happy. The gift of a friendship that after a two hour constant conversation requires a call back to say "oh hey, remember when we were talking about this, I meant to tell you this as well...".
In a world that is moving so fast, with technology that has made our lives so convenient... we sometimes conveniently forget how important the little things are.... like pure, heartfelt conversation.
Pick up the phone. Call someone you love.
Make their day.
I promise you won't regret it.
That's my Wednesday Wisdom.
